What is Lacey MakerSpace?

Lacey MakerSpace is a community-driven workshop located on the Saint Martin’s University campus in Lacey, WA. It offers a collaborative environment equipped with tools and resources for individuals and small businesses to create, innovate, and learn.

Can I come see the space?

Yes! Free public tours take place Saturdays at 10am. Claim your free ticket on our website calendar. If you have a large party or are an organization, please email us to book a tour at a time that works for you.

Is the space accessible?

Yes! LMS is ADA accessible.

How do I become a member?

Sign up in person at the MakerSpace anytime we’re open. You’ll need to provide your address, phone number, email plus a credit or debit card. Bring your student, tribal or military ID if applicable!

Who can become a member?

Anyone aged 12 and up can become a member. Members aged 12–18 must have an adult guardian present at all times while on the premises.

What can’t I make?

Things like weapons, dangerous items, illegal items, anything illicit or containing graphic content. Be mindful that we have members from all walks of life and families with children here. If you don’t know if your project is allowed, ask a staff member.

What are the membership benefits?

Access to over 6,000 sq ft of shop space, equipment and tools. Free Basics classes on LMS equipment and 25% discount on non-free MakerSpace classes, services, and merchandise. Free percentage of machine time credit monthly. A guest pass for non-machine using helper. Volunteer opportunities, employment training and resources. One hour of free mentoring on any equipment or project for new members who purchase a one year membership.

What classes are offered?

Lacey MakerSpace offers a variety of classes to help users gain proficiency with tools and learn new skills. Classes include topics like 3D modeling, laser cutting, welding, sewing, and more. For a complete list and schedule, visit the Classes page.

Are classes free for members?

Basics classes are free for members. Members are welcome to sign up for multiple Basics classes until they feel confident using the equipment.

Is there a member portal?

Yes! You’ll be emailed information on how to access your member portal when you sign up.

What should I bring?

Members are generally expected to bring their own materials, but we do have some for purchase. Scraps can be found for practicing.

What tools are available?

Are there additional fees for using certain tools?

Yes, some tools have usage fees due to high operating or consumable costs. Members receive a monthly machine time credit, and additional charges apply after this credit is used. For detailed pricing, refer to the "Our Space" page.

How do I get certified to use a tool?

To use a tool, you must demonstrate safe operation. You can achieve this by taking a Basics class specific to the tool or scheduling a one-on-one session with MakerSpace staff to show proficiency gained elsewhere. Classes can be found on our calendar; staff can be emailed at info@laceymakerspace.org.

Can I store my projects?

That depends. We have some small lockers available for rent, but no large project storage currently. You can usually leave glue-up projects overnight, pending staff approval.

Are there policies I should know about?

Yes! Check out our User Agreement, Liability Waiver, and Minor Policy they include information on our codes of conduct for keeping LMS safe, comfortable and welcoming.

Can I get a refund?

Mostly no, sometimes yes. Check out our billing policy for questions about how billing and machine time charges work. Some events have a refund policy specific to them and can be found on that events information and ticket purchasing page.

How can I cancel my membership?

Membership cancellation requests received at least three (3) business days
before the end of the month will be processed immediately. Any cancellation request received after
this deadline will result in a charge for the next month’s membership fee. All cancellation notices
must be submitted to info@laceymakerspace.org.

Does Lacey MakerSpace provide any services?

Yes, LMS can provide one-on-one sessions to guide your project as well as assistance with design and fabrication. For more detailed information visit our "Services" page.

Can I volunteer at Lacey MakerSpace?

Yes, LMS welcomes volunteers to teach classes, maintain tools, mentor other makers, and more. Volunteers can earn credit toward membership dues and machine time. For more information, visit the Volunteer page.

Can I teach a class?

Absolutely! If you have expertise in a particular area, you can apply to teach a class at Lacey MakerSpace Visit our Classes page.

I’m a new member but I forget what to do next!

New members are expected to take the Orientation Training online, then book a Basics class in person on the Classes page. If there’s a machine you already know how to use, you can talk to staff about showing us your proficiency to begin using the machine immediately. Members can also sign into the member portal or Discord to see what you’ve missed or check our Calendar for a class you haven’t taken yet. You can always come in and talk to staff to get pointed in the right direction!
