OUR SPACE

Founded in 2019, Lacey MakerSpace (LMS) is a unique collaboration between Saint Martin’s University, the City of Lacey, and the Thurston Economic Development Council Center for Business & Innovation. Together, these founding partners envisioned a space that could serve both as a regional hub for hands-on workforce training and as an accessible, inclusive makerspace for community innovation, entrepreneurship, and creative expression.

LMS opened just as the COVID-19 pandemic hit—and quickly pivoted to serve its community. In partnership with volunteers and local nonprofits, LMS became a critical coordination center for fabricating and distributing thousands of masks and face shields to first responders across the South Puget Sound. This spirit of responsiveness and collaboration continues to define its mission today.

Thanks to federal and local grants and sponsorships, LMS now operates in an 8,000 sq. ft. facility with fully equipped spaces for woodworking, welding, 3D printing, laser cutting, metalworking, stained glass, textiles, and more. New equipment and infrastructure upgrades continue to expand the space’s capabilities.

LMS offers a wide range of classes, from beginner safety and proficiency training to advanced fabrication and design, and actively partners with local organizations to offer career-connected workshops. Whether you’re learning a new skill, building a prototype, or launching a business, LMS empowers makers of all kinds with the tools, training, and community support to bring their ideas to life.
